Sixth Annual "War Birds Over Oklahoma" El Reno, Oklahoma May 14-16 This is the first time the event was host at El Reno and even with poor weather forecasts it was very well attended. Flyers from several states attended ( one all the way from Hawaii ) with their war birds of all sizes and eras. The Yukon club hosted the event in the past but because it was so well attended their field could not handle the parking for the flyers & spectators. The decision to move it El Reno Airport proved be a great idea, allowing this event grow into one of the major war bird events of the year. More than 90 pilots brought planes to fly & display for the three day event. This year in addition to the drawing and prizes they also gave awards for the best scale model of WW I, WW II & modern era airplanes. There were also the top awards of "Pilots Choice" and "Best of Show". My Fokker Eindecker E-1 brought home the "Best WW I "airplane and much to my surprise my Fokker D VII was awarded the "Pilots Choice". I felt very proud and humbled that my D VII won over all those beautiful airplanes. Several of SPADS members attended to fly or watch the action. There was a few crashes but overall it was a very good day for the airplanes. Flyers said they would be back next year. I think we have a winner here. Bill & Sharon Holland and their flight line crew did a fantastic job. Here are some picture of the event.
